One ridiculously lucky person is going to get a $10,000 iTunes gift card from Apple [General]
How many songs have been downloaded thus far? As of right now, I don’t really have an exact number for you, because things are constantly shifting as people buy more $0.69 – $1.29 DRM-free songs. However, I can tell you that Apple has been counting, and they estimate that they’ll reach 10 billion downloads fairly soon, and they’ve got one heck of a prize to celebrate with: a $10,000 iTunes gift card. That card should work for buying apps as long as you’re in the US, but for most other countries it probably just means songs and videos…but $10,000 worth of songs and videos. At the rate that I spend money on iTunes, that sounds a lot like a life time supply of media and music.
All you have to do to join is sign up on the Apple website or make purchases on the iTunes Store and hope that you’re the 10 billionth entry. You can apparently enter up to 25 times per day, so if you’ve been saving up to buy a lot, this would be the time to throw your cash at iTunes and improve your chances. It’s not like there are that many other iTunes users out there – your chances should be excellent ![]()

Why are people registering to win now if you have to be 10 bil? Wouldn’t it be better to wait until around 9.9 bil?
I thought the same thing – and I agree it's smarter to do the sign-up form at a later date, but since every single iTunes song purchase counts as a registration and people seem to be buying music regardless of $10k gift prizes, then it makes sense to just buy a few more songs now rather than space it out over the next month or so. In fact, I could imagine sales volumes going up because of this contest, with people kinda rushing the number towards 10B.
Ok, that makes perfect sense. Glad to see I wasn’t missing something. I wonder if the actual card would be worth more than that if auctioned. I could see it selling for 15k or 25k… I could also see it being a credit on your account.
