The winners of the 2009 Best App Ever Awards were announced earlier this week at the MacWorld expo. As I ‘ve mentioned here before, I ‘m a big fan of these awards “ as they offer a way for great apps that may not be best sellers to get some major recognition, and they cover a broad range of interesting categories. I was also lucky enough this year to take part as a member of the Nominations Committee, as well as casting my votes for apps I love.
Here are some of the impressive numbers that show that I ‘m far from alone in being a big fan of these awards:
- 56 categories of awards this year covering both apps and games
- 27,000 initial nominations
- 560 final nominees
- Over 300,000 votes cast
The overall Best App Ever winner was Pocket God. Amongst the many excellent and deserving winners, here are a few that caught my eye:
- Most Innovative “ Tweetie 2
- Most Useful “ Instapaper Pro
- Best Productivity Enhancer “ Dropbox
- Best Time Management App “ 2Do
- Best Just for Fun Kids App “ SmackTalk

Congratulations to all the great developers behind all the winners and nominees, and to Jeff Scott and 148apps for running the awards.
