Quick Look: Cracklytics, Google Analytics App for iPhone [iPhone Apps]

Cracklytics iPhone app

If you run a blog or web site, you probably use Google Analytics (or a similar stats tracking service) to keep an eye on your site traffic and where it ‘s coming from. Cracklytics is a new iPhone app that offers to let you keep track of your Google Analytics (GA) information easily and quickly.

There are a number of iPhone apps which offer the same capability, so here is the proposed unique selling point of Cracklytics:

While other apps focus on displaying as much data as possible, Cracklytics focuses on displaying only the numbers you actually want to see all the time: Number of visitors, pageviews, average pageviews and bounce rate. Created by somebody who actually uses Google Analytics daily, this is a great tool to take a quick look at your sites all the time!

If that compact view of your GA stats suits how you like to look at your stats, and gives you all the information you want, then Cracklytics may be a very good option for you.

For me, the app is a failure “ as the condensed set of statistics it offers is not at all what I want to see.  I want a lot more than it presents, and I find it a little crazy that there are currently no options or settings in the app to let me modify / specify what I want to see.

Just as a few quick for instances, I want to see keywords that have brought readers to each of my sites, and I want to be able to choose a custom date range to look at (not just Today, Yesterday, Month).  I want to see referring sources (where visitors came from “ Google, Yahoo, Bing, Twitter, direct etc), and what pages they viewed most while on the site.  And lots more as well.

Fortunately, I already use the excellent Analytics App on the iPhone “ that allows me to see all the data I want, looked at every which way but loose and over any date range I specify.

At the other end of the spectrum, if I want just a very quick overview of what ‘s happening with site traffic, I use another excellent app called Ego

I ‘ve always been a stats geek “ when following favorite sports teams and players, and now when keeping up with web sites as well.  So I ‘m always happy to look at another stats-focused app.

Unfortunately, I just don ‘t find Cracklytics very interesting or useful.  As mentioned above, if the particular set of data it presents is just what you want to see, then it may be a great little app for you.  For those who want to choose what data they see, it ‘s a no-go for now.

You can find Cracklytics in the App Store now, priced at $0.99.
