Bowtie: remotely control your iPhone music playback from your PC or Mac [iPhone Apps]

Posted on 14 Feb 2010 by Thomas

Bowtie is a wonderful $0.99 that’s just begging for a little more API flexibility from Apple. We’ve already got the free Remote app to control iTunes wirelessly from the iPhone, bu what about the other way around? I’ve actually been looking for a reverse Remote app for quite a while on Cydia, so seeing Bowtie right on the official App Store came as quite a surprise. I’ve only had the app for about half an hour, but I already love it. I can now control iPhone music playback and volume from my Mac or PC, but with a heck of a lot more style than the average playback widget.

The default themes for Bowtie are gorgeous. Two display album art and float under your normal windows, and one pins itself right to your desktop with slightly transluscent text. I really wish Bowtie could access my iPhone’s music library more directly, but I’m happy with remote playback controls for now. It sure beats walking out into the living room just to skip a track.
