For most iPhone users I know, it is a real crisis when their baby has any sort of hardware failure or problem.  Water damage or a drop and a broken screen are just two common problem types that I ‘ve heard numerous horror stories about over the years.

Sadly, especially when damage to an iPhone is accidental but self-inflicted, there are usually not very many good or affordable options for getting it fixed “ and folks often end up having to pony up for a new iPhone.  So I was glad to discover a very reasonably-priced  iPhone repair service based right here in Austin last week “ and I got a chance to try them out on a real repair and talk to the guy who runs the place.  They ‘re called Central Texas iPhone Repair “ read on for some quick thoughts and impressions on them

I discovered Central Texas iPhone Repair when they followed me on Twitter.  As soon as I see Austin plus iPhone I always have at least a quick look, and their web site immediately had me more interested “ as they seemed to offer a pretty comprehensive hardware repair service and at very nice prices.  Here are some examples:

3G Touch Panel/ Digitizer replacement: 69$ with warranty
3GS Touch Panel/Digitizer Replacement 89$ with warranty

3G LCD Display/ Video Display: 90$ with warranty

The ‘with warranty ‘ bit refers to their warranty to you.  They offer a 60 day warranty on their work.  They ‘ll try to repair any iPhone, regardless of its warranty status.

One of the things I liked immediately about Karl, who runs the service, is that he ‘s all about customer service.  They come to you for all your repair needs “ they ‘ll go to your place of work, home, or a local coffee shop or whatever meeting point suits you.  They cover Austin and central Texas right now “ but also offer a mail-in service who do not have the good fortune to live in or near Austin :)

Again, the price and overall offering for mail-in service seems more than reasonable:

For those outside of Austin, We Also Offer a Mail-In Repair Service, for a flat rate of 89$. If We cannot fix your phone, we Do Not Charge Anything! No Diagnostic Fees, No Shipping. Period.

They ‘ll take on just about any iPhone repair job, and will also buy broken iPhones. Again, I was impressed with Karl ‘s honest approach on the subject of buying used iPhones.  I said I might soon look to sell my old first gen iPhone, and he immediately advised that although he ‘s happy to purchase it if I just want the sheer convenience factor of dealing with him, but that I would get a much nicer price for it on Craigslist.

My discovery of Central Texas iPhone Repair was timely as well.  My wife spilled water on her iPhone 3G just a few weeks back.  At the time, we tried various well-known tricks to try to avoid or minimize water damage to it “ and luckily everything on the phone ended up working again, except for the camera.

That seemed as good a test-run for Karl and his services as any.  He went to my wife ‘s office last Friday, swapped out her camera in the phone for her in about 10 minutes, and charged just $30 for the refurb part plus labor.  We could have waited two days for a new part and paid just $45, but with the age of the phone itself we were fine with using just a refurb part.

The service we got was professional, fast, and very keenly priced.

So if you ‘re in Austin or Central Texas and need a good iPhone repair service “ or even if you ‘re farther away but want to try out the mail-in service “ I suggest you have a look at the Central Texas iPhone Repair site, here:
