Review: Tetryon [iPhone App Reviews]

Tetryon is a fun and addicting puzzle game at an affordable price.  When you really think about it, what more can you ask for out of the App Store?

In a store that boasts six digits worth of apps, it ‘s hard to stand out, particularly in a genre that is somewhat overcrowded.  Puzzle games are some of the most popular among iPhone users.

Tetryon doesn ‘t stand out by any means.  It ‘s not going to blow you away or make you think the puzzle genre has been reinvented.  What it is going to do, however, is provide you with hours of fun, and that ‘s what matters.

The game features five different colored glyphs, each in a variety of shapes, that need to be strategically placed to achieve specific goals.  Three same-colored, same-shaped glyphs must be combined to create a reaction, destroy the pieces, and increase your score.  The unique thing about Tetryon is that you don ‘t want three in a row.  Instead, you need to place one, then three, and then two right in the middle.  You can chain together same-colored, but differently-shaped glyphs in order to trigger bigger reactions later.

The controls are rather easy.  You drag pieces from the bottom of the screen to the spot you want them on the board.  You are allowed to keep up to two pieces in storage for use later in the level when it ‘s more convenient.

There are 62 levels here spanned across three unique worlds, each featuring its own distinct theme.  The early tutorial levels – which are extremely helpful – start off as a breeze to play through.  But as you progress, the levels become longer and more difficult. Each level has a specific goal.  One level will require you to get 10,000 points, while the next will want you to create five chain reactions.

The game will seem easy at first, but just hang in there.  It gets really challenging and in-depth as you progress.  You best put your thinking cap on, because there is some serious strategy involved here.

I ‘m happy to see that Tetryon saves your progress in the middle of a game in case you need to exit out.  As some levels can take a while to complete, this was an absolute must, so I ‘m glad it ‘s there.

Its posting in the iTunes App Store boasts that it can be played for three minutes or three hours, and that is dead on.  This is perfect pick-up-and play game when you ‘re in the waiting room or have a few minutes to kill on your lunch break.  But it ‘s also the perfect game to sit down and play in your house or apartment.  It can be whatever you want it to be, but most of all, it ‘s fun.  I highly recommend you check it out as it is definitely one of the best games I have played in the App Store.

Tetryon is available now in the App Store for $1.99.  A free lite version is also available.
