NewsRack for iPhone Latest Update (2.3.2): Avoid It, It Breaks Google Reader Sync

if you use NewsRack – one of the leading iPhone RSS reader apps – here’s a quick note about its latest update, to Version 2.3.2:
Don’t Do It
This update breaks Google Reader sync. Well, at least it breaks it in the sense that it renders it virtually unusable. Ironically, one of the key changes in this update is said to be ‘more reliable Google Reader sync’. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. What it does is force you to re-enter your GReader password every time you open the app. It also then does a full, new sync (which feels a bit like a full backup rather than just incremental) – which is slow, a nuisance, and even when it’s done it never seems to be fully, properly in sync.
As you can see in the screen shots above, I’ve been trying this out since last night and the issue is still occurring this morning. Oh, and one quick glance at iTunes and reviews for the app shows me that it is not just me:

Every single review is griping about the same issue.
So far, amazingly, I don’t see anything about this issue on the developer’s blog. I can’t imagine they’re not aware of this yet. Hopefully they’ve already got a fix in the works, and hopefully App Store approvals are still on their new year fast track.
If you’re a NewsRack user and you see this update available, avoid it at all costs for now.
UPDATE: I have found that – as suggested to me on Twitter by @rahsaanabdul – deleting the app and reinstalling fresh has resolved the issue. There’s also a suggestion in the Comments below that turning off sync in Settings and then back on may fix the issue as well. Let us know what results you are seeing.

Patrick, Just curious, have you tried Reeder? I recently switched from Byline and it is really good.
Too late.. Damn.
I have. It's a decent app, but I just never liked its UI much, it didn't grip me. I prefer NewsRack's interface.
Boo, updated before I saw this article.
Shame, lovely app
The issue is that it keeps asking you to go to settings. to get around this turn google sync off, then go back to settings and turn it back on and enter your password. That fixed the problem for me.
Cool. I've updated the post above to mention your suggestion, and also to say that removing the app and reinstalling worked for me.

I found out too late
The developer has updated his blog saying a fixed version has been sent to Apple, not it has to work its way through the App. store.
Have you tried the fix suggested by sibion above? Or just removing the app and re-installing, which worked for me?
Trying now, thanks
iw ould love to followu your suggestion of reinstalling the app fresh, but its now been removed from the app store…
Yup, I see that now too. Presumably the devs yanked it themselves to stop a flood of complaints. Hopefully new version will hit soon. In the meantime, try the fix suggested by sibion above.
you rock patrick thanks for the fix it is my favorite and most used app i love the ui and everything about it down to the email sharing twitter etc. i turned sync off then back on and that works you guys are a life saver thanks sibion.
Oh, thanks – but I don't rock, sibion does – his solution is quicker and easier.
Turning off sync in Settings and then back on fixed it for me…
