Flick Kick Field Goal is a game that was recommended to me so I decided to give it a try. The game offers you the chance to test out your accuracy flicking field goals. Flick Kick is similar to Paper Toss if you have ever played it. In Flick Kick Field Goal, you simply “flick your finger through the football” and aim for the goal post. It seems pretty easy, right? As you progress through the game play, the wind increases in intensity to throw the football off course.
When you open Flick Kick Field Goal, after tapping “Flick” on the bottom right, you will proceed to the main menu. The main menu includes: Play, Highscores, and Options. Flick Kick Field Goal offers four different types of game modes: Practice, Sudden Death, Arcade, and Time Attack.
Practice mode is exactly that, you can test out and improve your technique. During gameplay, you will notice a few indicators on your screen. The distance meter measures the space between you and the goal post. The wind meter indicates the direction and speed of the wind. In Practice mode, you also have an accuracy meter which decreases with every missed shot. The next game mode, Sudden Death has no time limit. The more field goals you make, the more multipliers are added to your score. Arcade mode is challenging because you have to make field goal kicks from three different positions. When you factor in the wind, position, and distance, the various challenges really add up. If you are successful on your final kick (third attempt) from each different position you are awarded with a bonus. It’s pretty neat because on your third attempt the football is on fire which reminded me of days when I played NBA Jam on Sega. You are given (24) footballs in total during Arcade mode. Time Attack is another challenging game mode because you are given two minutes to score as many field goals as you can. With each successful field goal, you are awarded with extra time and points.
The 3D graphics are great during gameplay and I found Flick Kick keeps my interest with all four different game modes. The familiar sounds of cheering and booing fans adds to the feel of being at a football game. The transition screens are also amusing to read while switching to the main menu or waiting for the game to load. These screens feature quotes from various coaches, players, and writers.
Flick Kick also added OpenFeint support and you can share achievements via Twitter and Facebook. A few of the achievements I have earned so far are “Calm before the Storm”, “Repeated Failure” and “Uptight”, so as you can tell I have not mastered Flick Kick as of yet. Nevertheless, I have found this game to be addictive (even while I was writing this review, I found myself being sucked in and not realizing it). This game is definitely a step up from flicking paper footballs I made when I was going to school. I am hoping Pik Pok adds multiplayer in the future which could make gameplay even more interesting. At the time of this review, Flick Kick Field Goal was running the latest version 1.02.
