It’s a great time of the sports year in the US just now – spring training under way, NBA playoff jockeying heating up, The Masters just a few weeks away, and best of all March Madness is just round the corner.
If you’re an iPhone owner and a big fan of the NCAA tournament, then you’re in luck – as there are already a number of apps out that will help you follow the games and get your brackets going.
The one that really caught my eye this morning is CBS Sports: NCAA March Madness on Demand. Long name, but with a nice long list of great features to go with it – including the most important one:
LIVE STREAMING VIDEO OF EVERY GAME on Wi-fi and 3G/EDGE “ from the first round of the tourney through the finals
That’s mighty good stuff. I love trying to catch as many games throughout the tournament as I possibly can. Having them all available via live streaming video in an iPhone app is superb. The app also offers live radio broadcasts of every game.
Here’s more of the app’s description and feature list:
Catch all your favorite rivalries, upsets, and buzzer beaters as they happen, no matter where you are! You can watch the March Madness games at work, on the road, at the stadium, at home, anywhere “ as long as you have an iPhone or iPod touch. MMOD also features VOD highlights of every tournament game, exclusive CBSSports.com Edge Matchup game previews, a real-time tournament bracket, and up to the minute scores and headlines. Sign up to receive alerts on your favorite teams, as well as upsets, buzzer beaters, overtime games, and more. You can even log into your Facebook and Twitter accounts to post comments on games and talk trash to your friends!
You can also manage your bracket selections straight from the app “ log in with your CBSSports.com ID to access your pools and brackets to make picks and track your progress throughout the tournament.
In addition, you can follow all of the post-season conference tournament action with live scores and headlines leading up to Selection Sunday. On March 14, the CBS Sports Mobile MMOD® app will stream the Selection Sunday show LIVE.
The first Westwood One radio broadcast will be the Opening Round game on March 16, and the first LIVE GAME VIDEO will be on March 18. CBS Sports Mobile: NCAA® March Madness On Demand® expires at the end of the tournament, on April 5th, 2010. NOTE: this app will cover the 2010 tournament ONLY.
