DRO Concepts’ Carbon Fiber Shield for iPhone 3GS

Posted on 16 Mar 2010 by Thomas

The stakes are raised whenever you charge over the average price of $30-40 for an iPhone case. The product better charge the phone or be made out of some luxurious material like leather or carbon fiber. DRO Concepts is banking on the idea that carbon fiber cases are awesome, and that an extra glossy one is extra awesome. It certainly looks that way in the picture.

However, the catch is that this ultra slim carbon fiber back cover costs $70 — although that does sound about right when I compare it the cost of the other carbon fiber case I’ve used: the GorillaTube. That monster of a case is still going strong and still looks like it did on day one, short of a few cosmetic scratches. So if this new DRO Concepts Carbon Fiber Shield can hold up as well, we might be looking at another (very expensive) winner.

  1. 70 Bucks for a case that doesn't even protect the bottom and top of the iPhone, let alone the chrome bezel? I don't care what that thing is made of, it is a rip off.

No, it's actually for those of us who hate cases and want the bare minimum to cover the back to keep the plastic from getting scratched. This is the first real effective use of carbon fiber which is exceptionally strong even when laid up extremely thin. Too expensive? Maybe, but it's not a chinese made injection molded piece either.
