Here’s a nice new feature that’s been a long time coming to the iPhone App Store – the ability to purchase an app as a gift for someone.  I can’t find a way to do this on the iPhone itself as yet (hopefully that is coming) but it is available now in the App Store on the desktop.

To get to it you just click on the drop-down arrow to the right of the ‘Buy App’ button. Gift recipients have to have a US iTunes account, so I was unable to ‘gift’ Thomas a copy of the ’827 Reasons Texas is Better Than Canada’ app when testing the feature.

I’m glad to see this new feature – I think it’s especially handy for those of us with several iPhones / Touches in the family.  How will you use this feature, if at all?
