There aren’t any other details aside from the date and time (10 AM PST), but I’m hoping that Apple has some significant changes in store for us. Will they able to address any of our (and your) Firmware 4.0 expectations? […]

SwitchBoard – An SBSettings "clone." Apple HAS to be recognizing some of the complaints that heavy iPhone users have with battery life, and sometimes it's just too annoying to drill down through all of the settings menus to turn off Wifi and Bluetooth.

App interoperability – If you do a considerable amount of Office on your phone, how many apps do you have that can view, edit, download, upload, etc. files, whether they be on your phone, a remote server, or a computer on your network? I personally have Box, Dropbox, Quickoffice, FileFile, iFile, and some on my computer that I don't use anymore like ZumoDrive. It's pointless, redundant, disorganized, and annoying. I have ONE Microsoft Word on my computer, and ONE Finder. Wouldn't it be simpler if apps like Dropbox could download a file, and then tell another app like iFile to open it? You know, like any computer does on a regular basis?

App Store demos – "Lite" editions are annoying. A simpler system would be demo functionality, 60 minutes of playing time for games, and 24 hours of having the app for other apps.

Notifications OVERHAUL – My old RAZR did notifications better than my iPhone. I can understand a lack of a centralized notifications hub like Android's notifications pane, but not even status bar icons? If we miss that email sound and don't have it in the iPhone's dock, you'd never know you had one. And popups are annoying. I use GRiP for push notifications because it's gives me the option to let it go and fade away, or tap and open it right up.

I would happily ditch jailbreaking then, since I am having stability issues with my 3G (phone reacts slowly, TokiTori is unplayable, connection to cell towers gets lost quite often).

I hate video being a second-class citizen buried under the "iPod", down in menus. Videos shouldn't go to camera roll (those are pictures!) and if I want to watch a movie, I don't want to have to go into iPod and then drill down to wherever videos are to find them.

A notification tray would be nice (I hate that I can only see the last notification… and that to clear it, I have to swipe, go to the home screen, and then re-lock the screen).

Even better, I want WIDGETS! I want to be able to see the weather at a glance without having to unlock my phone. Or when my next appointment is scheduled. Or how many emails/tweets/texts I have since I last checked.

Good idea and another silly limitation I've unfortunately become accustomed to

So photos, videos, documents are all stored in one place and accessible by any app. I get an email, the attachment is saved in a documents folder, I open my office document folder and edit that document then save it in the folder. I then open Dropbox which has its own folder, and move my attachment into dropbox. Ta da…mobile office management…

– Notifier (Allowing you to pick and choose when sounds repeat is important here. The status bar icons are useful as well.)

– LockInfo (Along with the new InfoShade feature of LockInfo, this is huge. It not only gives people an android-like notification system from anywhere, but lets people display information they want quick access to on the lock screen.)

– SBSettings (We'll probably never get this, but quick toggles are still very important to many of us.)

– Multi-tasking (I'd like to say limited multi-tasking would be enough, because it would. However, if I say that, Apple will take it to the extreme and limit it far too much.)

– AddExchange (So, clearly the phone can handle multiple Exchange accounts. Why on earth do we need to jailbreak to have more than one configured?)

– Better app management (I also prefer CategoriesSB, but I'm currently using a combination of CategoriesSB and Infiniboard. I'd also have a hard time without Five Icon Dock. With the number of apps we have today, Springboard fails. Apple must know this. It's time to replace it.)

– iFile/Safari Download Manager/Attachment Saver (I know we'll never get these. I suppose for most users that's a good thing. I sure couldn't live without them, though.)

– QuickReply APIs (Forget limiting this feature just to jailbroken SMS users. Give us an API that every app can use so we can QuickReply to SMS, Beejive, Twitter, or whatever we want wherever we want.

– Snappy (Probably another that we'll never get, but I sure wish we could. I've managed to get pictures of many things I wouldn't possibly have had time to get had I not been able to open up Snappy instantly from the lock screen.)

– Everything that's truly harmless that Apple keeps yanking from the App Store for no darn reason. (WiFi discovery apps, free memory apps, google voice apps, etc.)

Gotta say, the new Android phones are looking better every day. I still love my iPhone, but I hope Apple realizes they actually have competition now.

I think threaded emails, threaded emails, and threaded emails are all great ideas. Brilliant, even.

I just messed with the moto droid. It's like how an Iphone would be if it was officially jailbroken. I like it.

Definitely. the LED sounds like a plan, but that could only be implemented in the next iPhone hardware model. These wishes were focused on iPhone firmware 4.0, which should be compatible with iPhone 3G and onward.
