Review: White Lines for the iPhone

Most games in the App Store can fit into one of two main categories:  pick-up-and-play and in-depth.  There are pros and cons to both and, depending on your mood and how much time you have, there are reasons to play both.

White Lines unquestionably belongs in the pick-up-and-play category.  It isn ‘t deep.  It isn ‘t long.  And there isn ‘t a lot to it.  But mainly, and most importantly, it ‘s fun.

This is a memory game, plain and simple.  You view a series of white line strokes on the screen and then try to replicate the strokes you just saw.  That ‘s about it.

When you open up White Lines for the first time, you ‘ll have the option to start a new game or view a brief tutorial on how to play.  I recommend you check this out the first time.  It takes only a few seconds because, again, the game is so simple.

When you are ready to play, you have five different difficulty levels to choose from:  Easy, Medium, Difficult, Pretty Darn Tough, and Are You Nuts?  Each level has you copy two, three, four, five, and six strokes, respectively.  Once you beat a level, you advance to the next.

That ‘s pretty much it.  The only thing that will keep you coming back is trying to top your high score.  The game is definitely enjoyable and fun to play.  Just know that it is quite short.  If you ‘re the type of person who doesn ‘t like to replay games after beating them, then White Lines probably isn ‘t for you.  But if you ‘re looking for a simple and fun pick-up-and play game at an affordable price, then I suggest you give it a shot.

White Lines is available now in the App Store for $0.99.

UPDATE:  The developer contacted me after this review was posted and informed me that, after beating the game, there are six more levels you can unlock.  This brings the total number of levels in this game from five to eleven.  He also informed me that there is a small update for this game in the works.
