A curious bit of news from the folks over at Gear Diary. The CaseMate Hug wireless charging kit (case + inductive charger) that Larry Greenberg reviewed is no longer on sale. There aren’t any apparent problems with the model and it isn’t a recall — they’re just not selling it any more.
CaseMate had very little to say on the issue, apparently, commenting only on the fact that the accessory would become a collectible very soon. The most interesting part about all of this, however, is the statement that this is the end of the Hug accessory line (there are others planned for other/inferior smartphones). So while we may not see more Hugs for the 3G and 3GS, we could see something for the new iPhone form factor this June.
I still find it strange that they’d kill the older iPhone model, though. It’s not as though the Hug had a very long time on the market, and there will still be plenty of users with plastic-backed iPhones even after June 2010 rolls around.
