It’s not easy to review a game like the new TapTapRevenge Kings of Leon edition. You could say “It’s awesome” and would describe it perfectly. But let’s go a bit deeper and try to see why it rocks so much.
When you first launch the app you are welcomed by Use Somebody, Kings of Leon’s greatest hit, and one of the best splash screens I’ve ever seen on an iPhone app. Take a look at the screenshot below:
It reminds me of the band last album. Actually, the entire app is themed using the colors of the last album, with moving background photos of the band members. The menu has four options: career, battle, kol chat and option. The footer is used to display the latest news about the band. It’s an nice touch that I appreciated very much. Tapping on it takes you to another page where you can find info about the upcoming tour and a biography of the band.
The career mode is just like any other TapTapRevenge game: there are four difficulty levels (from easy to extreme) to you can challenge yourself with. If you scroll to the bottom of a level you can see that other songs can be downloaded. My only disappointment with this game is that there are only seven songs that can be played (with three albums available, they could have added more).
Apart from this, as I previously said the game is great. Its gameplay is exactly the same as any other TapTap game, and I don’t see any reason to change it. There are a set of three pads at the bottom of the screen and you have to tap the correct one when a ball (usually in time with the rhythm of the song) flies by. You get more points when you don’t make mistakes for some time, starting from a multiplier bonus of two, all the way up to 16x. There’s even another kind of bonus: the stars.
Sometimes random stars replace the standard balls, and if you tap them correctly you get a star (positioned in the middle-left) that can be used to get some seconds of the 16x multiplier at any time. However, I don’t understand why they positioned the star bonus points so far away from the pads: when you play on extreme mode you don’t have time to reach it and head back to the pads without missing a beat, so you usually end up losing tons of points.
In conclusion, this Kings of Leon version of the TapTapRevenge game is worth every penny you spend on it, if you are fan or just like the band. If you aren’t, you should think twice before buying it (because of the low number of songs), but you could enjoy it anyway for the graphic experience.
Kings of Leon Revenge costs 3.99€ / $4.99 and can be downloaded here.
