Reeder 2.0 loaded 475 unread items (no cached images) within about five seconds of loading up. The app simply flies along, and it’s hard to believe this isn’t butter a web app.
I’ve decided to shut off the image caching for all item except for Starred, but image caching doesn’t have nearly the same disastrous effects that it does in other RSS apps. Items and unread counts seem to get synced first, with image caching set as the lowest, last priority. It took over three minutes to finish caching the images fr 300+ items.
A small rectangle shows up next to the time stamp for items with cached images (though this can also happen for posts without pictures), but it’s also good to know that you’re free to roam wherever you want within the app without feeling any slowdown. Items with uncached images still load quickly and on-demand.
Swiping mechanics for marking items as read or starred are much better this time around, and there’s even a new one when looking at individual items: just pull the screen up at the end of an article to quickly move to the next one (the opposite goes for moving to a previous article).
State saving also works beautifully, and it has made Reeder one of those rare apps that is simply perfect for my needs. For once, I find myself at a loss for feature requests, and consequently, at a loss for words. Reeder is that good.
