In reply to Mike. Auto-Brightness DOES actually do something. If you're in darker lighting, your iPhone will automatically dim the brightness of the screen since you don't need so much light. If you're in brighter lighting, your iPhone will automatically brighten the screen since you need more light. And it's all based around the slider setting. I don't believe it will go any higher than your slider is set, even when you have Auto-Brightness ON. Works great for me.

– I would like task-oriented arrangement of apps, perhaps organized using iTunes. So, we would have "work apps" load when we go to work, and "Home" apps when we go home and synch up.
– Related to app management, preserve app settings and databases when you remove an app, so they are maintained when you re-install.
– ability to click a calendar appointment received from Outlook or other service, so it will install the appointment
– ability for applications to launch each other (other than built-in apps like Safari or iTunes store); this is a good alternative to multi-tasking. This would allow us to also indicate which apps cannot do this.
– SD card / external camera support via dongle like the iPad.

On top of already said:
– Different audio profiles (normal/outdoors or loud/silent/office etc)
– More customization options to SMS sounds
– *ANY* customization options to calendar alerts
– Talking about calendars, week numbers would be great
– Officially release other software channels besides app store and allow development with non os x operating system (I'm not going to buy one just to write sw for my iphone)

I just want a new iPhone. And do everythin my jailbroken iPhone does, backgroundsr, themes, categories folder setup, I don't know, I've just spen so much money on jailbreak Apps to get my phone to operate in my Goldy locks sweet spot that I find my self unsatisified with an unjailbroken iPhone.

My iPhone 4.0 Wishlist:
1. Multitasking=> An Expose like featureto switch apps or even an ALT+TAB look-a-like
2. Profiles Based on Location(GPS)=> Have my wifi turn off everytime I leave my house. 3g turns off when I get home. etc
3.Make more use of status bar on top(graybar) notifications of emai, messages so u dont miss them if u get more than one at a time.
4. Delete Individual Phone Calls, Delete song u dont want, fix song titles on phone and have it sync new info with itunes.

Let me just say this: you can be as much of a skeptic as you want, but you're an idiot if you disagree with me when I say the tech blogs will spin out of control and into oblivion with disbelief if 4.0 doesn't have multitasking. Even the CONCEPT of multitasking isn't foreign to the casual iPhone user.

multitasking- even on music app's only
fm Radio – the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3g already have this built in apple just haven't enabled it yet.
iPhone- a new iPhone hardware to go with new software . maybe with a better camera and screen.
iChat- we want front facing camera
Wallpapers- Wallpapers in springboard!
Lockscreen – interactive widgets on lockscreen
Rotate – maybe use volume rocker indication on screen as a rotation lock (activate by double tapping volume logo)
Sping fun – springboard rotate
