Apple Releases iPhone SDK 4 Beta to Developers, Evidence of Camera Flash and Apple Grand Central Dispatch

After yesterday’s announcement of iPhone OS 4.0, Apple also released iPhone OS 4.0 SDK to developers. You can get iPhone SDK 4 beta from the developer site. This update is necessary to implement new features Apple unveiled.

Additionally, Apple has over 1,500 new API’s in iPhone OS 4, such as access to in-app SMS, photos and videos in the users libraries mapping improvements, Quick Look functionality, the Calendar application, and so on. Apple has also included their “Accelerate” functionality for access to iPhone-optimized complex mathematical functions. In short, Apple has included some heavy-duty stuff. I would wager that Apple’s A4 processor is coming to the new iPhone this summer.

Also worth noting, MacRumors has pointed out that references to Camera Flash have been found, which of course suggests that Apple is working on a physical camera flash for an upcoming iPhone model. There is also integration for Grand Central Dispatch into iPhone OS. This technology, which was introduced alongside Snow Leopard, makes it easier for developers to build applications for multi-core processors. The current iPhone utilizes a single-core processor, and clearly Apple is making in roads for a multi-core model in the future.
