iPhone OS 4.0 Jailbroken Already

Yowza.  Those guys at the iPhone Dev Team really don’t mess around. iPhone OS 4.0 only just got previewed and there is already a jailbreak for it – with the standard video evidence provided by team member MuscleNerd.  Notice in the demo you can see Cydia as well as the new app switching pane.

Apparently the iPhone is also running a VNC server app called veency.

I wonder whether Apple has anything up its sleeve to even keep the cat & mouse game interesting between here and the final release of 4.0.

Seeing the plethora of "OS 4 jailbroken!!!!!" stories in the last 24 hours just drives me insane. Who in their right mind thinks that Apple would include jailbreak-resisting code _early_ in order to help ensure that jailbreaking is available the day of release? Of course it's jailbroken: there's nothing positive for Apple in protecting it with anything but 3.1 protections now. Whatever break is being used now, you can be sure that the release version of OS 4 will make everything more difficult, but not a day before that GM ships.

My understanding is that nobody is releasing any details on the exploit being used and there are no plans to release a jailbreak before 4.0 goes final. So it is entirely possible that Apple does not yet know what to patch.
