Wi-Lan files Patent Suit Agains Apple

Wi-Lan has filed suit against Apple and some two dozen other companies. Wi-Lan is claiming these companies have infringed on one of it’s patents regarding Bluetooh.

In its filing, WiLAN claims that these companies have infringed and continue to infringe WiLAN’s U.S. Patent No. 5,515,369 by making and/or selling various products enabled with Bluetooth technology including cellular handsets and personal notebook computers.

Wi-Lan hasn’t produced anything for some time, and instead now milks licensing fees and filing lawsuits.

Additionally, 9 to 5 Mac is reporting that Apple has hired Noreen Krall, the former Cheif Intellectual Property Counsel for Sun Microsystems. He now oversees Intellectual Property and Litigation as Senior Director.

It’s worth pointing out that Apple is currently in the midsts of several large-scale legal battles, including suits with Nokia, Kodak, and HTC.
