Opera Mini for iPhone Downloaded 1 Million Times First Day on App Store – How Many Are Keeping It?
On its first day of availability on the App Store since it was “ surprisingly, to many “ approved by Apple, Opera Mini for iPhone (iTunes link) was downloaded one million times.
My colleague Thomas was not impressed in his first look at Opera Mini on the iPhone – and I’ve seen lots of tweets about the app, but honestly can’t recall seeing any positive ones at all.
So my question is how many downloaders of the app are keeping it? My impression is very few. Please let us know in the comments if you have tried Opera Mini / are planning to keep it.

Ive have it for the last few days I like how it zooms in and how fast it is. But I don't like how long it takes to download a image and how you cant zoom in or out with the pinch. The homepage setup it kind of neat should be able to have more then one page. I'm going to keep it for now.
I tried it the first day and haven't used it since.
I'm keeping it. Personally, for what I do it's pretty fast. I'm looking forward to the next update !!
I've already deleted it. Sadly, this seems to be the trend on my phone. Apps rarely last longer than a week. If they do last a while, they seem to find a permanent home on my device.
I can agree with most users/reviewers, that the current version is kinda wonky. Especially on displaying webpages properly, but I don't think that's a reason to dismiss it just yet.
So far, it's a quality app, and I think with future updates, the kinks can be ironed out.
Overall, I'm entirely happy with the browser, as it allows me to make quick web searches even quicker.
You can't read the pages without zooming in.
Pages are formatted terribly, wouldn't let me login on a few different sites.
Major sites like ESPN are in mobile format.
This is the browser I had on a phone years ago… Just faster and with tabs. What's the point?
I'll hang on to it because it is literally 10 to 20x faster than Safari on the iPhone 3G
I'm keeping it. It has some problems but it's so much faster than safari. Hopefully they'll improve it further.
…sorry, by my install lasted only five minutes. Time that I will never get back! WTH!
I'm keeping it. But, only to use if I am googling something and doing research and need to jump from website to website really fast wondering if these websites are even relevant to what I am trying to research. What I mean is, if I do a google search there might be a lot of websites that come up and don't give me the information that I am looking for… at least with Opera Mini I can fly around and check them out/dismiss them quickly and move to the next… for mainstream browsing on sites I frequest…. there is nothing better than Safari.
It is faster, the start page does look nice and tab switching is somewhat more functional (being able to switch tabs without leaving the current page).
However some issues are deal breakers for me. Primarily the lack of pinch to zoom, the illegible full page rendering and irregular page layout (to accomodate for it's one zoom level). I have a browser that works, so I am not willing to put up with those issues.
Deleted.
this feels like a beta
I've had a go. Back in safari at the moment as I don't prefer not having the pinch and zoom.
However it has a lot of potential and I look forward to an updated version. It may yet be my first choice… Eventually.
Dee.
I am keeping it. It allows me to use the MLB App's background streaming in Safari, and also browse the Web using the Opera browser.
As a Canadian, we have to pay extortionate data roaming fees when in the U.S. e.g. $10 a month for the privilege of paying $1 per MB! (Without the $10/month charge, it would be $6 per MB!!!) Opera Mini will be great for keeping the bandwidth down when travelling. It is nice to have the option to not load pictures in Opera Mini – I needed to jailbreak in order to get Safari to do this.
At first when I downloaded I though to my self:
"Wowww, thats pretty cool"
With some neat features that we all miss on safari.
But after 10 minutes of using it, I had to think again:
"Crap"
Already deleted it….
Zoom is nasty, it doesnt load the pages properly (special the mobile ones), its not as fast as people claim it is and I could go on and on…
I think it has potential, but those guys have a lot work to do!!!
I could really use those favorite and tab features in an Iphone browser, but it has to load the pages and work as good or better as the experience I have with safari…
My rate from 0 to 10?
Maybe a 2
It is fast, but the pages look terrible. Zooming seems to work different than with Mobile Safari. I deleted Opera after two days.
