Crazy iPhone Numbers: Nearly 9 Million Sold Last Quarter

iPhoneonside

Apple are reporting their Q2 financial results today.  Revenue, profits, and just about everything is substantially up from what I’ve read so far.  Here’s a little bit on the iPhone’s contribution to things:

The company also sold 8.75 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 131 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter. iPod sales came in at 10.89 million units, representing a one percent unit decline from the year-ago quarter.

Wow.  It doesn’t seem that long ago that selling 10 million iPhones in a year was a goal that many questioned whether Apple could hit.  Now they’re not that far off selling that many in a single (non-holiday) quarter.  It’s also a fair bet that a very healthy percentage of the 10 million plus iPods sold are Touches, that also run the iPhone OS and form part of the platform.

So what was it the Blackberry bloke was saying about nobody wants touch-screen phones again? 🙂
