I know this is a debatable issue, but for me as a user, on any of my platforms (phone, video games, computer) the try before I buy or the genuine full test drive wins me over more times than not. I don't impulse buy on my iPhone, but if you give me a demo and I am impressed, I'll buy your application. Best example I can think of was BiteSMS. Without the trial I wouldn't have even considered, but because of the trial I was happy to buy and tell others about it!
