New Limera1n Jailbreak Coming Soon, or Maybe Not So Soon

Earlier today rumors were heating up that the latest jailbreak offering from Geohot – the young master jailbreak guru – might be getting released very soon, likely within the next few days it seemed.  The upcoming new jailbreak is called limera1n – and is thought to be able to jailbreak just about any iPhone / Touch device, running any level of firmware, and the iPad as well.

Now it seems it may not be coming that soon after all – at least judging by this tweet from Geohot at around 2:00PM today:

Here’s hoping he gets through other things quickly and shows us limera1n fairly soon.  You can check out the limera1n site (just a placeholder for now) here: http://limera1n.com/

Sorta OT but the link at the end of the article directs to "9to5mac.com". The Limera1n site is:

Not OT at all – thanks for pointing out the error. Fixed now and pointing at the limera1n site.

Personally, I hope all these guys hold all their jailbreaks until the new iPhone is released or at the very least 4.0 is released. Only reason I'll get the next iPhone is if I can still jailbreak it untethered. I know I'm a lucky one that still has my 3GS jailbroken untethered and there are a lot of people that have been waiting to be able to jailbreak theirs, but wouldn't they rather be certain they can jailbreak 4.0? Think of the amazing jailbreak apps that will be possible with the new features of 4.0. Would be silly to show their hand to Apple at this point.

P.S. Intensedebate wouldn't let me log in again this morning. I know you've kinda given up getting it working properly, but just a heads up…

I would agree you assuming they are using a new exploit, that can then be patched by Apple prior to next model release etc. But … that may not be a safe assumption at the moment. When the Dev Team released their last 'beta' jailbreak for 4.0 they stressed that they were not showing their hand:
"It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. Nothing new is revealed to Apple …"
IntenseDebate = yeah, sorry – some good features that make it (just about) worth keeping, but The Worst Ever support – it has exactly the same set of stupid, basic issues that it had a year ago. And dealing with them on support issues is like talking to my dog about brain surgery. I've called them out on Twitter, written directly to their founders – so far I have never seen any sign that they care in the effing slightest about support. It's seriously unbelievable.
