The Weather Channel 10 Million downloads for the iPhone

I’m a big fan of The Weather Channel app and, apparently, I’m not the only one.  The Weather Channel app for the iPhone has surpassed over 10 million downloads making it one of the most downloaded apps in the App Store.  There are several reasons why TWC is such a great weather app.  It’s packed with great features: 10 day forecast outlook, radar map with optional layers, severe weather alerts, and video with local weather forecasts. I’ve used several other weather apps, but TWC has always stayed on my iPhone.

The Weather Channel commented in a press release marking the occasion.

’10 million users is a great milestone for our team.  It validates our belief that providing the most accurate, up-to-date weather information available is what matters most to consumers.  The Weather Channel offers exactly that when and where they need it “ which is to say anywhere, on the go and at your fingertips, ‘ said Cameron Clayton, vice president of mobile for The Weather Channel.
I couldn’t agree more with the above statement.  I have always found TWC to be accurate and up-to-date which definitely matters most when checking the weather on the go.  In addition TWC gave everyone a sneak peak of what’s to come in the future.
The Weather Channel continues to enhance its mobile weather applications.  The iPhone app will soon get an update to include full-screen maps, seasonal weather information, a new sliding toolbar and new ad products.  The premium app, TWC Max for iPhone, will also soon see a new launch with an entirely new UI and much more.

I am currently using the free standard version (which displays ads, but they are not obtrusive, so they don’t bother me).  The premium app offers more features: video center, animated future radar, and it’s completely ad free.  It definitely sounds like TWC has big plans in the near future for the iPhone and I look forward to the upcoming updates. This is one app that should come pre-loaded on the iPhone versus the Yahoo! weather app, which I’ve never used.  Congrats to The Weather Channel and their team for providing us with a great app.

The Weather Channel Standard App is FREE and the Max version is available for $3.99 in the App Store.
