Spirit Jailbreak for iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad Released

UPDATE: I forgot to add that this is an untethered jailbreak.

Adding to the growing list of Jaibreak tools is the newly released ‘Spirit ‘, which jailbreaks the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch “ including those on the latest 3.1.3 firmware.  The utility, which comes in both Mac and Windows flavors, is available from the official site (http://spiritjb.com/).  Early user reports are favorable, with comments such as ‘the easiest jailbreak I ‘ve ever seen ‘ and ‘took only 30 seconds ‘.

iPad support, however, is reported as ‘beta ‘; so iPad users will want to ensure that they have a good backup as a restore might be required in the event that things do not go well.

Windows Vista and 7 users will need to run Spirit in Win98 compatibility mode, and some users are reporting that it requires Administrator rights to run.

So, finally, the iPhone 3GS owners who (like me) mistakenly upgraded to Firmware version 3.1.3 can now get their Jailbreak on again.   Spirit jailbroke my 32G 3GS with the latest baseband as promised.

Note that Spirit does NOT unlock the iPhone (which would allow it to be used on other carriers).  It is a jailbreak only tool.

It's not the 30 secs for the jailbreak thats a big deal but the aftermath of 30-60 minutes when you have to update all that crap from Cydia :-D

  2. to go back to jailbreak or stay vanilla until 4.0… hmmm. I guess it depends if I'll need tethering or not. Very interested in updates regarding stability and performance!

  3. Nice! but i'll wait for the full iPad Jailbreak.

I was one of the unfortunates who upgraded to 3.1.3, but only because my blackra1n jailbreak would go into recovery everytime I turned the phone off forcing me to restore. I didn't realise Apple wasn't signing pre 3.1.3 updates until it was too late so I couldn't downgrade and have been stuck in limbo until now…

Can't wait to be free again.

I new version of sprit has been released, which now supposedly fixes a problem with photos being deleted and the Windows 7 issue fixed.

    Hey everybody,

My name is Tom and I'm a researcher for the LA-based Clas Action Lawfirm Ringler Kearney Alvarez LLP. I am looking for Iphone or ATT smartphone customers who purchased the ATT international data plan, left the country, and kept the plan upon returning, based on the ATT representative's recommendation. Anyone who falls under this category, please get in touch with me. I am researching a potential class action lawsuit against ATT involving this unfair and illegitamite practice and would like to hear about your experience. This is costing customers hundreds of dollars!
