iPhone 4.0 beta 3: native file support, rotation lock, and improved multi-tasking dock

I’d love to confirm this feature myself, but iPhone 4.0 beta 3, was pulled within two hours of its release (before I could get to it). However, the folks over at Boy Genius Report have managed to dig up some new iTunes-related details. There seems to be a file transfer section in iTunes (under Apps) where you can transfer files to and from the iPhone, presumably for use with apps like Docs to Go. We’ll probably have to wait a while for more details, since the feature seems to be disabled in this beta.

This file system is the latest bit of news I’ve seen on beta 3, but there were more juicy details released earlier today. The multi-tasking dock has been reworked and re-skinned, allowing for easier closing of multiple apps, the addition of the iPod playback controls (instead of a pop-up in the middle of the screen, like in 3.x), and a rotation lock button. The last bit is quite exciting, although some comments I’ve read hint that the feature may be limited to portait locking for now.

This is, of course, aside from all of the camera and photo saving fixes (problems from beta 2), and a general increase in speed. All told, I can’t wait until beta 3 gets back online!
