iPad Available Internationally on May 28th

Late last week, Apple announced that all iPad models would go on sale in nine new countries on Friday, May 28th. Pre-orders will start on May 10th.

Apple today announced that iPad will be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK on Friday, May 28. Customers can pre-order all iPad models from Apple’s online store in all nine countries beginning on Monday, May 10. In the US, Apple has already sold over one million iPads and customers have downloaded over 12 million apps from the App Store, as well as over 1.5 million ebooks from the new iBookstore.

Pricing varies from country to country, but it seems that some find the price a little to steep, especially customers in EU nations. In fact, Apple CEO Steve Jobs has sent out several emails replying to customer complaints regarding the price. Jobs lays the blame on the customer’s respective governments, stating that the majority of the price hike–compared to the U.S.–pricing comes from taxes. You can find a complete summary of Jobs’ words here.

Following that launch, the iPad will become available in nine more counties in July. Those countries are: Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore. Pricing for these countries will be announced closer to launch.

Also worth noting, Apple plans to launch the iBookstore alongside the iPad in many of these countries on May 28th. Apple has issued press releases for Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Spain and the UK, all claiming that the iBookstore will be available at launch. Germany and Switzerland both seem to be left out of the loop at this time.
