Long term review update: Griffin + Threadless Funkalicious iPhone case

Griffin + Threadless for iPhone

I’ve had the Griffin + Threadless Funkalicious case for a few months now, and has easily become one of my favourite cases of all time. It’s definitely still one of the more expensive shells I’ve reviewed (considering it’s *just* a plastic shell), but it seems that the price translated very nicely into quality.

I’ve put the iPhone down on all sorts of very rough surfaces, and the back of the Funkalicious is still completely scratch-free. I’ve even accidentally dropped the case and had it scrape along my un-padded Xtand until it hit the desk. I expected to see two very long scratches going down the back of the case, but there was nothing. Whatever matted coating Griffin uses on these cases — it works damn well.

I can’t say this about many products I’ve reviewed, but my Funkalicious case still looks like it did on day one. Considering how much I put the iPhone through on a daily basis, I consider that to be quite a feat.

The Funkalicious case is awesome, I wish they made one for the iPad. I have been wanting to get this case for a while now. I am afraid to buy it now bc of the new iPhone coming out soon. I wonder if the same accessories and cases will work. Nice review, glad to hear it didn't wear out.

  2. I now look for the following feature in iPhone cases: the ability to put the phone face down and have the face and beezle not touch the surface (table, desk, etc.). Does it meet that feature?

@John Unfortunately, it does not. It stops just below the bezel, although I do have a screen protector on the device, so that takes care of any scratch worries along the front. I used a crystal screen protector I got from one of the SwitchEasy case reviews I did.

It's also not a case I'd use if I were prone to dropping my device. I try to keep a very firm grip on the phone at all times — but I'm more lax about putting it down on not-so-friendly surfaces :P

Man, I wish mine had held up as well. I got the yellow Clouds Within The Thunder in February, and by April the edges were peeling, and it looked filthy – and I'm not necessarily extremely abusive with my phone. It's mainly in my purse pocket by itself, or in my hand. I'm still really unhappy about the appearance of the case and considering trying to get my money back. Oh, and to top it off, you can see the dark words with the artwork's and the artist's names printed on the inside from OUTSIDE the case. Probably just an issue with the yellow case, but they should have printed it in a lighter color. And I've recently noticed that on the silver apple logo on the back of my phone, you can see a slight imprint from the words that no amount of rubbing will get out.

Love Threadless, but this case made me way sad.

That case looks brand new! Now my question is… is it a hard case or one of those rubber cases that gradually expands? Because that’s my deal-breaker…
