Tweetie 2 had disappeared from the App Store — how long until the official Twitter app?

Even if you wanted to use some of your precious cash money to pay for Tweetie 2, you wouldn’t be able to. The app is now unavailable, which likely means that the launch of Twitter’s free and official iPhone client should be coming soon. This change comes a little over a month after Twitter’s purchase of Tweetie and the hiring of Loren Brichter as part of their official mobile team.

Cult of Mac says the app should hit tomorrow or “this week”, and it should make quite a splash when it does. We’ll report it once we see it, but you’ll likely see the official release in real time as iPhone users scream collectively over Twitter.

Biggest changes I've seen is on the search tab w/ the top tweets, suggested users, etc. I haven't really seen anything else. I wish they would've brought back a darker theme maybe, but I'll survive.

Retweet and re-location of Follow/unFollow button are my faves thus far.

Yep. I like the new search is just one button now and then you select "all tweets", "nearby", or "people", instead of the separate buttons to search for the other like tweetie2.
