Boy Genius Report is claiming that they have received information that Verizon could be gearing up to introduce a new technology that would allow Verizon’s CDMA network to transmit both voice and data, simultaneously. This is one of the few advantages AT&T has had over Verizon, and Apple and AT&T have advertised on it.
We have been told that when the mythical Verizon iPhone materializes, assuming it’s not a LTE unit, it might launch with VoRA; Voice over Rev. A. According to our source, Verizon has been testing VoRA as a precursor to VoLTE, and as long as the network upgrade timeline and iPhone release are aligned, we should see this happen.
I believe this will seal the deal for the iPhone to arrive on Verizon’s network. Apple had aired advertisements degrading Verizon’s network over their lack of dual data-voice transmission. However, if Verizon pulls this off, I can easily see Apple bringing the iPhone to Verizon.
In related news, AT&T says they are “not worried,” if they lose their iPhone exclusivity contract with Apple. Translation into human: We’re scared to death.
