This includes cracked apps, which one obviously did not pay for and free versions, which once again were not paid for.

The text in the image clearly states that the version of the app on the device has not been paid in full. Not that one needs to pay to upgrade.

Tap Cancel and the update cancels, Tap Buy and another dialogue pops up saying something like the app cannot be purchased right now because its being updated.

Im guessing Air Video has got a paid update at a discounted price…

Not on the cracked apps I installed. Hence the confusion. When I would update the free apps like Social City, this popup would occur and after tapping buy, the itunes store terms and agreement pops up, after agreeing to that. The app still does not update. The only way around was to delete the app and to reinstall it.

This message pops up if you have some cracked apps and try to update them.
It's logical you can't do it for free cause you didn't buy in the first place.
