Hey, Andy here, and I ‘m thrilled to have an opportunity to contribute to JAiB. For my first app review, I’ve chosen a musical app called KanonDrum, and it ‘s a blast. The app is a virtual drum set that does a good job of sounding like real drums.
This app is very simple, but I keep coming back to it. If you’re not into music this app probably won’t beat your drum. Basically, I use KanonDrum for my spastic, synthetic drumming needs. It’s pick up and play material, so there’s hardly any wait before you’re jamming away.
Sure, it’s pretty fun to play with it and make your own beats, but the real fun begins when you touch the “Lesson Riff” control that allows you to play the drums to the beat of a song. There are twenty-one songs, so it’s not like you get bored quickly. These songs have no words, which I think is nice because you get the full instrumental experience.
A cool little extra that the dev put in the app is hiding behind the information “i” in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. When you tap it, you get a display that shows you the name of the different drums, and the areas you may tap on the screen corresponding to the sound it will make. This feature shows something that many people who own the app may not have discovered; if you tap in the lower left hand corner of the screen, it makes the sound of a rim shot, which is essentially hitting the rim of the snare and the middle of the snare at the same time. It’s like having two different snares in front of you on the screen that make two different sounds.
But wait, the montage of drumming doesn’t end there; you can go into Settings>General>Home, and modify a setting to allow the user to double-click the Home button and bring up a window that enables your iDevice to play music in the background while using other apps. You can now play the drums to your own music library!
Overall, I believe this to be a fantastic app for the price, which is FREE.
KanonDrum is available in the App Store now!
