Apple Running Out of iPhone 3G Units Ahead of WWDC

With WWDC just right around the corner, Apple seems to be letting the supply of iPhone 3G to dry up. This of course was the iPhone model introduced in 2008, and was bumped down as the low-end model after the introduction of the iPhone 3GS in 2009.

Boy Genius Report is claiming that Apple has stopped shipping iPhone 3G to AT&T locations.

We’ve heard that Apple has stopped shipping iPhone 3G 8GB units to AT&T stores and orders are not being placed for the device. Could this mean we might see the iPhone 3GS drop to $99 and make way for a new model?

MacRumors then reports that some of their international readers are also seeing shortages of iPhone 3G units from their carriers.

It looks like Apple will execute a similar strategy as they did with the iPhone 3G and move the iPhone 3GS to the low-end position with the new model taking the lead. This was all but confirmed when Wal-Mart announced that they would be selling the iPhone 3GS for $97.
