iTunes Store Grabs 70% of U.S. Music Download Sales

NPD, a market research firm, has released data showing that Apple’s iTunes store is still holding a lead in total music sales, and an even more impressive lead in digital downloads. They currently hold 70% of the digital download music sales in the U.S. In second place is Amazon with a distant 12% market share. Apple also holds 28% of overall music sales in the U.S., beating out players like Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart.

Just for comparison, digital downloads music sales make up an impressive 40% of all music sales.

Also worth noting, Apple is now being investigated once again for antitrust law violations regarding their massive market share in the music industry.
