The iPhone Skype app has been updated – to Version 2.0.0 – and has added the long-awaited ability to make voice calls over 3G.
Some very good news from Skype this holiday weekend. They’re claiming CD-quality for Skype-to Skype calls on an iPhone 3GS or 2nd generation iPod Touch.
Calls are free until the end of August 2010 (via Razorianfly) although carrier data charges still apply, and then there will be a ‘small charge’ for the service starting 2011. There are no more details than that on what the charges will be, at least none I can turn up so far.
Alicia and I were able to do a quick test of Skype over 3Gs, with me in Texas and her in Austria. Both our calls went flawlessly, and the call quality seemed very good.
It also still works very nicely in the background on my jailbroken 3GS.
You can find this latest version of the Skype app in the App Store now, and it is a free app.
