This quick shot from the Engadget live blog shows a little about what is so mind blowing (or mind-blasting, as my best buddy would say) about the new iPhone 4 display — but it certainly doesn’t capture it all. Apps on iPhone 4 will automatically resize to the new resolution, so they won’t look like crap as they do on an iPad. That doesn’t mean they won’t benefit from upgraded hi-res art for the newest generation of Apple’s smartphone, though — so we can look forward to newer, smexier versions of the apps we already love (Tapbots in HD!). The rest of the tech specs are as follows:

  • 3.5″ display, same size, 960×640.
  • 326 ppi. 800:1 contrast ratio also 4x better than 3GS. Uses IPS technology for superb color and wide viewing angle

This is definitely going to be one of those hardware specs we’re going to have to see live, or at least in video, to really appreciate.
