We had heard that Apple confirmed this 512MB figure during one of the WWDC sessions last week, and have now verified this. The session it was revealed in is now available (Session 147, Advanced Performance Optimization on iPhone OS, pt 2) for registered Apple developers.

Now that’s some very good news.  There have been rumors back on forth on whether the new iPhone would have 256 or 512MB of RAM over recent weeks, and it is great to hear confirmation (hopefully accurate) that the higher number is correct.

As iPhone apps get larger and more complex and powerful (hello iMovie) there’s no such thing as too much RAM for the iPhone.

Woot! Not gonna lie, I was a little nervous about this. 256 MB isn't terrible, but if you're jailbroken, it gets pushed fairly often. 512 MB is going to be very nice. Awesome pic for this post, too. :D

  2. I recall we debated maybe a month or so about this. The idea at that time was that it had 256mb because of a vietnamese prototype. How much of the vietnamese prototype was incorporated into the final version of iPhone 4? Good news. This is going to be smoking fast and very fun!

Hi John – I don't know how much of that prototype's specs made it into the iPhone 4 – a lot I think. Smoking fast and very fun = can't argue with you there. :)
