Apple's North Carolina Data Center To Be Operational By Year's End

MacRumors is reporting that Apple’s 1 billion dollar North Carolina data center we’ve heard about over the past year or so, will be operational by year’s end. The new data center is five times larger than Apple’s current data center in Newark, California. The new center is around 500,000 square feet in size.

Here is some arial footage (shot in February 2010) MacRumors found of the massive complex.

This information comes from Apple itself during yesterday’s financial conference call. There they said the data center will be complete by the end of the year, and they will begin using the second it is finished.

Cloud computing, Cloud-based iTunes syncing and media storage, something else? My guess would be, yes, all of the above.
