Recommended: Macgirl’s Video Review of the Apple Bumper Case for iPhone 4

Posted on 22 Jul 2010 by PatrickJ

I always enjoy Macgirl’s reviews – they’re always incredibly thorough and detailed and easy to read.  Her video review of the Apple Bumper Case for the iPhone 4 is just as thorough and just as good as I’ve come to expect every time I delve into any of her articles.

I really hadn’t heard a lot of detail about these (now infamous) bumpers before seeing the video.  Now I think they look like quite a nice option – though given the recent Not-to-be-called-Antennagate issues, I’m also thinking you may not be able to get hold of one until Christmas (2011). :)

Great review! I was wondering, would putting on the bumper cause you to peel the edges of a screen protector film?

Hey there Honda. I'd ask macgirl for the best answer on the bumpers. I do know that most cases I've used have not caused me too many issues with screen protectors – but I've tended to use front-side only protectors, not full-body types.

Great review, one thing worth pointing out though is that the Apple Composite AV cable will not fit when the iphone 4 has a bumber fitted. I've had to modify the opening on the bottom to compensate. I've also rrported the design flaw to Apple.

I've got the apple bumper and use it with the invisible shield full body protection with no problems at all. It's the perfect solution every thing is protected (front, back and sides)

I wouldn't worry too much about trying to buy the bumpers now anyway. Apple's Press Conference last Friday indicated that they were going to be giving the bumpers away for free to anyone who wanted one as a solution to attenuation issues with the antenna. They stated that they cannot make the bumpers fast enough, and that they were also going to solicit the help of third party case makers to fill the demand. The automatic refund process has already begun earlier this week, and we were informed by Apple that there would be an avenue for those interested to select a case on line later this week. Looks like it has started (at least in the US) http://www.apple.com/iphone/case-program/

Nice review. I downloaded the iPhone Case Program (three to five week wait), but at least it's on it's way. After watching your review, I can't wait to get it. Good work.

  6. I can't wait to get my free case… it's just too bad that I cannot get a white colored case.

  7. Yes, so it seems the AV Cable connector doesn't fit when using the iPhone 4 bumper case from Apple. This is bad news as this is how I connect when in my car. This includes Audio, Video and Power. Now what do I do? Ooops, Apple! Looks like the free Bumper cases are not only shipping now but people have gotten them. Check this http://www.erixclix.com
