Site Stuff: In-text Ads Now In Use

InTextAds

As you may have already noticed, we have added a new form of advertising on the site; in-text ads via the Kontera network.  I ‘m sure most of you will have seen these type of ads in the past on many other sites.  They are the double-underlined links within text.

I ‘m aware that some of you may not be overjoyed at seeing these on the site, and I hope you will not find them too obtrusive.  Here are a few points that I hope will soften the blow for those of you who are not fans of this type of ad:

— We ‘ve chosen a very different color for the ad links “ a light green as you can see in the screenshot at the top of this post.  I hope that helps to set them apart clearly from our standard links within posts.

— Kontera ‘s ads use an optimization process with these ads as the technology learns what readers are clicking on or not clicking on (self learning algorithms) “ so hopefully as time passes they will deliver more and more relevant ad content.

— You can opt out of seeing these ads altogether if you like.  To do so, just click on the ? button at the top right corner of one of the ad popups (just to the left of the X to close button).  That will take you to this page:

On that page, scroll down to the very bottom and look for the text reading like so:

To disable Kontera In-Text ads please click here.

Click the link and that should turn these ads off for you.  Please note that will turn them off for our site only, not across all sites you visit.

As far as why I ‘ve chosen to add these new in-text ads, the reason is pretty simple.  In an ideal world, I ‘d love to have very few ads on the site and still earn a decent little bit from the site.  The world isn ‘t ideal just yet in that area, and I work very hard on the site and spend a fair amount on its upkeep, maintenance, and regular site improvements (more of those coming very soon by the way) “ so I need to look to monetize it a bit as well.

I hope the above makes sense.  As always, I ‘d love to hear your thoughts in the comments if you have any on this subject.
