AirPrint No Longer Coming to 2nd-Gen iPod Touch

9to5Mac points out that Apple appears to be dropping support for AirPrint in iOS 4.2 for 2nd-gen iPod touch models. Apple announced the AirPrint feature on September 15th, and the 2nd-generation iPod touch was included in the listing of compatible iOS devices. It appears however, that shortly after that promotional material was released, Apple removed the 2nd-gen iPod touch from the list. That means only 3rd and 4th-gen iPod touch models can support the feature.

If this sounds familiar, it probably should. Both the iPhone 3G and the 2nd-gen iPod touch have wavered with full compatibility with iOS 4. For instance, Game Center, a major new feature in iOS 4.1 originally had planned compatiblity with both the iPhone 3G and 2nd-gen iPod touch. Then both devices were dropped from the list. Then, at the last minute, the 2nd-gen iPod touch was once again added to the list of supported devices.

It all boils down what Apple deems is acceptable performance on their devices. That’s how Apple rolls.
