GreenPois0n Jailbreak Release Delayed

GreenPois0nDelayed

It’s been quite a drama-filled weekend for the iOS jailbreak arena. Yesterday Geohot made an ‘out of nowhere’ release of his new limera1n jailbreak, and today the Chronic Dev team have postponed the release of their much-hyped and much-anticipated GreenPois0n jailbreak.

The reason for the delay is that Geohot’s jailbreak uses a different exploit (security hole) to work than the one used in GreenPois0n, and the Chronic Dev team (and others in the jailbreak community) feel that it would be a big mistake to release two jailbreaks using two different exploits right now, as it would make Apple’s job easier in patching both – not a great move in the ongoing cat and mouse game that jailbreak is.

Here’s part of what the Chronic Dev team had to say in their blog post announcing the delay in their release:

Thanks to the irresponsible antics of geohot, we will have to delay the release of greenpois0n (new ETA = as soon as possible), so that we have time to clean up his little mess and integrate the exploit he uses in limera1n into greenpois0n. This way, we can save SHAtter for future devices that may still be vulnerable to it.

You can check out their full announcement here; unfortunately right now it’s more about politics than anything else:
