Forthcoming iOS Release to Address Daylight Savings Time Bug

ZDNet Australia is reporting that Apple will include in the next iOS software update a fix addressing a Day Light Saving Time bug that is hassling iPhone customers in Australia and New Zealand using the iPhone’s built-in clock app.

The problem arrises when a user has a recurring alarm set, but the alarm goes off an hour ahead of when it’s scheduled. The problem was first noticed when New Zealand entered Daylight Saving Time last month, and again when Australia switched to DST earlier this month.

Apple Australia told ZDNet Australia that a solution to the bug was already in the pipeline.

“We’re aware of this issue and already developed a fix which will be available to customers in an upcoming software update,” Apple said.

Apple hasn’t said when the fix is coming but my guess would be soon. More countries are due to switch either to or from DST in the next few weeks. With iOS 4.2 slated for release in the relative distance of November, it seems that iOS 4.1.1 will be released soon.
