Greenpois0n Jailbreak Released

GreenPois0n

The much-hyped and anticipated new Greenpois0n jailbreak has been released today. The release is a couple days later than originally expected, due to some skulduggery and drama in the jailbreak arena – the main reason being it is now using the same exploit (security hole) used by geohot’s limerain jailbreak, so that their original exploit can be preserved for a later day once this one is patched by Apple.

It looks like release day may not be going 100% smoothly for Greenpois0n – and the original blog post on the release (and the Chronic dev team blog as a whole) was unreachable for me last time I tried a short while ago.

Here’s what the release announcement blog post from the Chronic dev team said, before the blog became unreachable:

greenpois0n only works on firmware 4.1, so (only if you have an iPhone 4!) if you are on a lower firmware make sure you use TinyUmbrella to preserve your baseband.

Initially, this will be a Windows-only release. This is due to some technical complications that we soon hope to correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks to geohot for the bootrom USB exploit. We have opted to use that instead of SHAtter for the sake of exploit presevation.

This release of greenpois0n supports:
– iPhone 4
– iPhone 3G S
– iPod touch (4th Generation)
– iPod touch (3rd Generation)
– iPad

Soon there will be another release, adding things like support for:
– Apple TV (2nd Generation)
– iPod touch (2nd Generation)

If you have a chance to try it out, let us know how it goes for you in the comments.
