Verizon to Start Selling iPads This Month

Here’s some big news out of the blue, or at least I missed the rumors on this one. Verizon is going to start selling iPads on October 28th.

For its part, Verizon will offer all six iPad models, the 3G versions of which will sell for the same prices listed above. However, the carrier said it will bundle the three Wi-Fi models with its Verizon MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot routers for a suggested retail price of $629.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 16GB + MiFi, $729.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 32GB + MiFi and $829.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 64GB + MiFi. … Verizon Wireless is offering a monthly access plan to iPad customers of up to 1GB of data for $20 a month.

This is interesting for a number of reasons, not least of which is that this is the first Apple and iOS device to make it into Verizon since the launch of the iPhone back in 2007. Some would say this marks a major turning point in the whole iOS vs. Android and AT&T vs Verizon ‘wars’ of recent years.

The very fact that Verizon is now selling an iOS device should lend even more weight to all the already boiling over rumors of a Verizon iPhone coming in the next few months. I think today’s news makes a Verizon iPhone within 6 months seem about as much of a sure thing as anything short of a Steve Jobs announcement could do.

As our friends over at Phandroid say, this takes things to a new level in the mobile platform and carrier wars, and it is really does feel like ‘game on’ now. Exciting times, and good times for customers wanting the most out of their mobile devices and cellular carriers.
