How To Install First Jailbreak App on Apple TV

Looks like the first jailbreak app for Apple TV (2G) – nitoTV – has gone from demo/concept mode to real release. 9to5Mac and others have posted instructions on how to install on a jailbroken Apple TV. nitoTV is said to be an RSS reader for the big screen, that also serves as a weather app.

For those who have jailbroken their Apple TVs, here are the instructions, via Musclenerd and this MacRumors thread:

1) SSH into your Apple TV2, the default password is “alpine”
2) Type “passwd” and enter a new password (if you haven’t already)
3) Type: echo “deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org ./” > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
4) Type: apt-get update
5) Type: apt-get install com.nito.nitoTV
6) Type: killall Lowtide

As with any jailbreak activity, be aware there are risks when doing this – and that this site accepts no liability of any kind for any damage done to systems when jailbreaking.
