Apple To Double The Size of Their Recently Completed North Carolina Data Center?

DataCenterKnowledge has posted an aerial video of Apple’s brand Data Center located in North Carolina. Local officials are reporting that the center should be going live “any day now.”

The video originally came from a local retailer who also claims that Apple is rumored to be expanding the brand new data center to double it’s current size.

There is a rumor that Apple will double the 500,000 square foot $1 Billion Data Center in North Carolina. Though there has been no official announcement, I discovered that site work is being performed and it clearly appears that there may be some truth to the speculation.

This report is given extra credibility after both the Charlotte Business Journal and All Things Digital reported very similar findings.

With its 500,000 square feet of data center space (currently, sources tell me that Apple is considering doubling that) the facility has been built for something.

It’s baffling to me that Apple didn’t just build the at twice it’s size in the first place rather than completing and then deciding “oh, we need it bigger.” On the other hand, that may just turn out to be rumor. Regardless, Apple is up to something that will require at lot of bandwidth and storage, and I’m just dying to know what it is.
