Apple Did Pass RIM Last Quarter in Top Global Mobile Phone Vendors List

A new IDC report shows strong iPhone sales have pushed Apple past Research in Motion, making the iPhone-maker the world’s fourth-largest mobile phone seller in the third quarter of 2010.

It looks like Steve Jobs’ claims that Apple has passed RIM in global mobile phone sales (made during Apple’s recent Q4 financial results call) are borne out by at least one set of figures.

What really strikes me about these numbers is that it looks to me like this makes Apple the world’s Number 1 pure smartphone vendor. I think all the companies ranked above it – Nokia, Samsung, and LG – all make feature phones as well.

Not too shabby after just three and a bit years since the original iPhone release.
