Apple Extending iTunes Song Previews to 90 Seconds in the U.S.

Symphonic Distribution is reporting that Apple has informed music labels that the company is extending the length of the iTunes song previews to 90 seconds, which is up from the current 30 second previews. Shorter songs however, will continue to offer the 30 second previews.

We are pleased to let you know that we are preparing to increase the length of music previews from 30 seconds to 90 seconds on the iTunes Store in the United States. We believe that giving potential customers more time to listen to your music will lead to more purchases.

Apple’s email also notes that labels that continue to offer their music on iTunes are agreeing to the new terms, but any label that feels these terms are too liberal, will have to withdrawal their music from the store.
